Request Volunteers In Motion Services

Volunteers in Motion provides transportation for people who can’t use Space Coast Area Transit buses or Paratransit service on their own. With extra help from volunteers, clients can get to important places like medical offices, pharmacies, and grocery stores. This program allows many to live independently who might not be able to otherwise.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I sign up for Volunteers in Motion services?

To register, call 321-635-7999 between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday. You’ll need to provide basic personal information and details about your medical needs and grocery store preferences.

2. Can I request same-day trips?

We recommend scheduling trips at least one week in advance. Same-day or next-day trips are usually hard to arrange due to high demand.

3. Can I make extra stops during my trip?

If time allows, volunteers may stop for things like picking up a prescription after a medical appointment. Always check with the driver, and they’ll try to accommodate your request.

4. How far in advance do I need to be ready for my trip?

You should be ready 15 minutes before your scheduled pickup time to ensure a smooth trip.

5. What happens if no volunteer driver is available?

Due to high demand, we may not be able to fulfill every trip request. If a driver isn’t available, we’ll inform you as soon as possible.

6. Can the volunteer driver help with my groceries?

Yes, volunteer drivers can assist with carrying groceries to and from the vehicle, but please keep your shopping manageable so the driver can help you efficiently.

7. How do I schedule a trip?

Once registered, you can schedule a trip by calling the same number during business hours. If no one is available, leave a message with your name and phone number. We’ll contact you to confirm availability.

8. Can I choose which grocery store I go to?

Yes, but it’s recommended to use the grocery store closest to your home. Shopping is limited to one store per trip, and you may need to be flexible with the day.

9. Will I be notified when my trip is scheduled?

Yes, you’ll receive a phone call confirming your trip for the following week once it's scheduled.

10. What if I need to cancel my trip?

If you need to cancel, please call as soon as possible, ideally 48 hours in advance. This allows us to help someone else who needs transportation.

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL TRIP!

  • Advance reservations are required, and a volunteer driver must be available. Most trips are scheduled a week in advance. Same day and next day trips are difficult to schedule, due to high demand rate.
  • Volunteers in Motion clients receive telephone notification when their request has been scheduled for the following week.
  • Clients should be ready to go fifteen minutes prior to their departure time!
  • Volunteers are equipped with cell phones for notification when a client is ready for their return home.
  • After a medical appointment, it is often necessary to get a prescription filled. If time permits, the volunteer driver will make an additional stop. Always ask the driver as they will make every effort to accommodate a client’s request.
  • Most grocery shopping requests are granted, although not necessarily on the specific day of preference. Clients should use the closest store to their residence. Shopping is limited to one store. Please be flexible.
  • If another mode of transportation is secured or your appointment is canceled, please call to cancel the Volunteers in Motion trip as soon as possible. A prompt cancellation (at least 48 hours in advance) allows volunteers to provide someone else with needed transportation. Please be considerate.
  • Be kind – the driver is a friendly, compassionate volunteer who is willing to make each client’s trip a pleasurable experience!
